My dear readers,
I just got a comment from an EN speaking friend that sometimes it is hard to leave me comments since the instructions are in Hungarian. Comment is "Megjegyzes" in HU, this you can find at the end of the post, and then just click "megjegyzes kuldese".
Please do let me know what you think, your feedback really matters here.
A véleményetek igazán számít. Örülnék, ha kapnék visszajelzéseket tőletek.

Legszebb szülinapi ajándék, a szerendipitás
A másik fogalom, amit a cikk használt a rokonértelmű szerendipitás, amit szintén ismer a tudomány.

De most valami csoda történt.

Meditation is an itchy pause in the performance called yoga?
This week I am following a Vinyasa workshop with my beloved ex dance teacher. It is so great to have her again. It has been years that we did not see each other, and now it is just such an incredible feeling that we can reconnect. Years ago, I was just an awkward but enthusiast amateur, and she was the great dance master. And now we meet again and she is giving this very unique yoga workshop and I come to do it as a yoga teacher myself. Transformations, the spice of life.
After the first class I gave her a comment (this is product of my 'honesty training' as explained in the post on satya) on how she could give maybe more time for silence in the meditative part of the class. She seemed to appreciate the remark. However, and this was really interesting, there was another guy who heard our conversation and he intervened saying that in his opinion this class is like a performance, and like in a theatre 5 minutes of silence kills, likewise here it would be also annoying. Wow, what an approach. Wow, what emotions started whirling in me, but I decided to leave the answer to my teacher. She nicely explained that when you are listening the instructions in a speedy vinyasa class despite all your focus tends to go to the teacher to be able to follow the movement, the flow, that is not about the teacher's "performance", it is about you and it's about how you work with your own body. You are not a passive audience, but you are a very active participant. You are the main character if you wish. It is all about your real time experience.
I don't know if the guy got it, I hope he did. But it is true, that we are so afraid of being in silence, and to be with ourselves. Either because we get easily bored and nervous, or simply because we are scared. I know, when I first started attempting sitting down for meditation, I was always so scared. After a couple of minutes, I started to feel that someone is looking at me, or standing behind me, or what if in the next moment I will see something. I think this all has to do with my Christian education, where everything outside the teachings of the church was from the Devil. Yoga was one of the greates occultist practices, judged illegitimate by the Church.
Now in India, it was very interesting, because as I was opening up and my conciousness became more and more present, this fear evaporated. It also helped that I tried meditation in a group. But here a new problem started, the pain in the body.
At the beginning we only sat, but in total silence, for about 20 minutes. I remember, I still could not sit properly, and my legs got so numb that it was really getting painful. Then I started to imagine, that I pull this numbness up into my whole body, like as if I was sinking down into water. And when the numbness raised up until the top of my head, I just imagined, that I am totally immersed in water, the waves splashing above my head, and I am now subject to the laws of buoyancy instead of gravity. All my weight, pain and heaviness can dilute in the water. Sometimes it helped but on other days I would just get up, well, lying, exactly I could not get up at all for about 5 minutes I had so much pain, and decided, I had enough of meditation, why on earth we are suffering this much.
But then again with my next teacher, there was no choice, we did there even more meditation, 30 minutes for a start. And they would not stop saying that there is no progress in yoga without meditation. The technique he gave us was 'easy', just sit, and breathe, and only come out if you feel that in the next moment you will die of pain. Well. I needed a lot of self discipline, since there we already had to be in ardha padmasana, half lotus sitting, which was much harder than simple crossed legs, and the pain started a lot earlier. After 5 minutes I had tremendous pain, and the anger over the remaining 25 minutes of torture. But you cannot quit, so I had to focus, and learn to tolerate the pain. This might sound cruel, but now I see that you have to go through this first, and then it gives you so much strength. In daily life too, this pain tolerating capacity can come really handy.
But the modern people does not tolerate any kind of pain, be it mental, like boredom, or physical, like knee pain. Although no pain (or I prefer 'no effort'), no gain. Voila, another universal law of nature.
By the end of my trip in India, after all this 'training', I achieved the capacity of sitting for 40 minutes CALMLY in half lotus, and I can tell, that only after 25-30 minutes things started to happen, so it is really important that you invest in your sitting. For me it is usually the last 10 minutes which is the most interesting, when I achieve total relaxation of mind and body and when I can open up like a vessel, and allow things to happen to me. And I am still a real beginner in the meditation department.
So sitting still for 5 minutes is really nothing.

Satya, igazmondás, egyenesség
Szeretném folytatni a yamákkal kapcsolatos gondolatokat.

I wish to continue my contemplation on the yamas. So the second one is satya, truthfulness.
It is clear that we should not lie. Lying is deceiving, it can cause suffering and hurt others. But why? Because if someone is deceived as to the truth, that person is deprived of the possibility of seeing clearly and take appropriate decisions. He or she is limited in her choices, therefore their freedom is taken away to some extent, and the worst is that their spiritual advancement is hindered because they are kept in the world of "maya", the world of illusions. They are cut off from those challenging moments, when they could break through and see the light, the divine and the good.
And if you are the one who deceives, the karma you take upon yourself is also very hard, since if you deliberately lie, you take spiritual opportunities, possibilities for growth away from others. In the same time, your karma will hit back on you, and you will automatically block your own spiritual path too.
You could say, yes, but sometimes the truth is so hard and it would be unbearable for someone to hear it. I disagree. I think the most painful is when you find out much later that you were not told the truth and then you look back and say, maybe if I knew it, I would have taken different actions. Even the course of my life could have taken a totally other direction.
The most obvious example is when someone is dying and they are afraid to tell it to them. I think everyone, or at least everyone's body is intelligent enough to feel that the moment is close, but by giving bad hopes, they are deprived of the opportunity to prepare for the last minute. However, that is a very important preparation, I saw it with my father. And death, however strange it might sound, is a beautiful moment, at least that is what I experienced with my Dad. That expression on his face, that eternal smile and harmony, made my first great spiritual experience and removed my fear of death.
But back to satya, I think it is not just that you should not tell a lie, but it also means that you should be honest and get things off your chest when it feels right. It is funny, but recently I became more straigthforward. Before, I was always concerned by hurting others, or considering what other people might think if I express my true feelings over an issue. But now I started to practice this with friends, that when something is bugging me, than I try to remove my fears over expressing it for fear of the consequences and I say it out loud. And I must say, it feels so good. It feels liberating. It feels being honest and truthful to myself. And funnily enough, the reactions so far were not so bad as I have anticipated. People looked at me, were thinking, then felt ashamed for their behaviour and asked sorry, or in another instance we both drew conclusions and learned something new from the situation. From an originally negative situation, a conflict, we came out with a new lesson, a little bit more wiser. And the whole story instead of leading to more trouble concluded in a warm friendly hug. And there should be no misunderstanding, I was really pissed at the beginning, and still. God, if we could all start this practice in our daily life, then so many things would go much better around us. But of course for this you need listening ears from the other part. That is why it is so good to start this with friends. Although, after you get used to this with friends, I see no point why you could not apply it to strangers as well.
As I started to behave like this, I see that on more and more occasions people are more direct with me too. They tell me things that are a little risky to say, but they can't resist. Probably, this is again the law of attraction, or your karma, you get back what you give or wish for. But I enjoy it. I feel that with these people my relationship is deepening, because they give me moments where I have to stop and think about something that at first seemed annoying or just unpleasant.
For me being honest is the message of satya, giving respect to yourself, to others and to the absolute truths (the dharmas or natural laws) of the universe.

Partnership, Acro yoga, community and a better world
I was in Spain on an Acro Yoga general immersion.
This kind of yoga practice is a lot of fun, but requires a lot of energy, both yin and yang. You have to be able to awaken the inner fire and use all your concentration skills and strength for the acrobatic part, but you must also allow yourself the luxury of relaxation in the form of thai massage. It is a very complete but more powerful type of yoga. And its uniqueness lies in that it is based so much on co-operation and trust in each other. This practice is about Partnership.
I must tell, before going there I was a little afraid whether I would be strong and experienced enough to do all the things, but the power of community really helped me to pass all my boundaries and to achieve some great victories.
No need to mitigate my personal dedication and engagement, but all this would have been impossible without the support of that wonderful human environment that was surrounding me there. Imagine a place where 50 people gather, people from almost all corners of the world, complete strangers with different languages and habits, but with one same goal. This whole situation augurs something extraordinary to happen, but there are really no accurate words to describe the 5 days I spent there.
The house was small and we had to share only two bathrooms. Our commitment was for six hours of practice a day with a short two hours lunch break, so the fact that all these people had to be ready in the same time would normally give way to all sorts of conflicts. Therefore the organisers asked us to share the bathroom in the spirit of the 'more than one at a time' spartan rule. When in our over-individualised society we are finally forced to give up a lot of our personal space and intimacy, it can easily create tension and stress. I, myself was probably amongst the most worried about this, but I was soon amazed how quickly I could adapt to the given conditions. People also, instead of moaning and complaining started to be more co-operative and understanding. We instantly started to grow to be a community and a wonderful sense of oneness and love sprinkled the air. Caring and mindfulness about the others became apparent among us, and even without words, we made the pact suggested by our teacher: we are sisters and brothers.
One day in the class, we made a circle and everyone was invited to share what he or she would take home from this place. Our main organiser, one of the teachers said that he would take the hope that people can live in so much harmony, since he looked around here one night and he could see wonderful scenes of love and compassion in all corners of the yoga retreat. That is true, already from day one, people were sharing themselves with each other. After lunch or dinner, you could see some guys engaging in interesting talking, others playing the guitar and singing together, others meditating silently, again others massaging each other trying to relieve the muscular stress of the day, some practising more flying, and last but not least those who were JUST silently doing their little jobs around the house, our great karma yogi friends. These guys did not took the class, they just came here as volunteers to facilitate our daily life. Great souls.
It was truly amazing, I saw no tension between anyone, no quarrels, only harmony was present. People were totally open to each other and to new experiences.
And on this wonderful basis a brilliant structure could be built. Our practice grow better and bolder and more carefree day after day. The energy went really high especially after day three. I did things that I look at now and I say, wow. I would have never imagined that I would be in a handstand, or that I would jump up on the legs of my partner like a little arcobat in the circus, my head of course upside down between her feet. This pose is called the Star, and indeed, the first time you do it you feel like high in the sky.
Also we had no alcohol or anything like that to stimulate us. Not even coffee to the greatest sorrow of many. But still, we were so filled with positive energies, that people started to shine, all was smiling and they had achieved such an incredible physical stamina that many were practising down in the shala until late at night.
The seed of this positivity was planted on the first day when we were told that the phrase "I can't" was strictly forbidden in the room. And yes indeed, our human potential is much greater than we would think, but sometimes the support of a great community is essential to make a step further. And here it was all given, so generously. In most of the exercises we were changing partners but no matter who I worked with I could see encouragement and great coaching. This also does not happen very often in "normal" life.
Another interesting thing was, that I think I never gave so many hugs in such a short time. I guess I hugged many more people than I usually do in a whole year. But at this place this seemed to be the most natural and intuitive action. We received love and attention all the time and we gave it back whenever we could.
Yes, after this week, despite my inborn Hungarian tendency for pessimism, I continue to believe in the Human. Yes, if we can create such a paradise for 5 days with total strangers, then we have the potential to do things also on a greater scale. I just saw an interview with Seane Corn who will soon come and give a worshop here, and she said that the yoga community has a great potential and responsibility. Therefore we should act and get "off the mat into the world". I totallly agree, and now I am thankful that I had a real life experience to be able to fully integrate with this idea. We can create beautiful things around us and there are no limits. My first step is to create a small circle, my yoga community, the like-minded people around me so that we can take our fare share in making this world a better place.
If you read this blog and want to join me, you are very welcome.
Om, shanti shanti shantiiiiihhh.

"Azok a tetű magyarok"
Csak hazafele a reptéri check in sorbanállásnál kezdtek megint megcsapni a magyar szófoszlányok.
Na most amikor a magyarokat ócsároljuk, akkor az olyan mintha magunkat köpnénk szembe.
